University of Illinois Celebrates Liszt's 200th!



The University of Illinois was the the scene of two concerts celebrating Liszt's 200th Birthday. At 4:00 pm on on Saturday, October 22, graduate student musicians presented a varied program of works by Franz Liszt, including a rare performance of the composer's Grand Concert Duo for violin and piano, and the Elegy for cello and piano. Performers included Tatiana Shustova, Ian Gindes, Kyu-Youn Sim, Borah Kang, Patricia Lykos, and Aaron Jacobs. The concert took place in the Temple Buell Architecture Gallery on the UI campus.

At 7:30pm that same day, Sinfonia da Camera presented an all-Liszt Concert in the Foellinger Great Hall of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana. The orchestra was conducted by Founding Music Director, Ian Hobson, a Life Member of ALS. The program included the orchestrated version of the "Mephisto" Waltz, the Hungarian Fantasy, with Hobson as soloist and conductor, and the "Dante" Symphony.
